Zero Punctuation Reviews Tabula Rasa

Zero Punctuation is at it again with his sharp, witty reviews of some of the most highly anticipated games. This time around he has his sites directly targetting Richard “‘General’ British” Garriott’s newest MMORPG, Tabula Rasa. The review is, well mostly negative, but what did you expect from ZP? Despite myself being a fan of the game, I find his videos to be hilarious and are a breath of fresh air amongst all the usual reviews being thrown around. So for any die-hard TR fans; take a chill-pill, come back, watch the video, and laugh your ass off. Enjoy!

Gods & Heroes on HOLD

gnh_logo.png

Shocking news from the PC gaming front! Perpetual Entertainment has decided to put Gods & Heroes (their main MMORPG) on indefinite hold. What does that mean? Well, if you listen to any other company that puts their games on indefinite hold (Blizzard, EA, etc) then it probably means the game has been cancelled. Probably the most shocking aspect about this, however, is that the game was nearly finished. It was slated with a Q4 07 or Q1 08 release, and just from the videos and screenshots alone you could tell a lot of work had been put into the game. It is such a shame. . . I was actually looking forward to playing it.

Delayed: Tabula Rasa

tr_st_2dboxart_160w.jpgAnd the delay train strikes again! Who is the latest victim to this horrible beast whose hunger never ceases to end? Tabula Rasa. Yep that’s right, if you are wanting to play Richard “Lord British” Garriott’s newest MMORPG you are gonna have to wait a wee bit longer. How much logner? About 2 weeks.

Originally slated for an October 19th release, it has been pushed back to a worldwide release of November 2nd. Bummer. . . I know. However, the Tabula Rasa team has emphasized that these extra 2 weeks will be critical in hammering out a lot of recently discovered bugs and problems, so I guess it’s not all bad. Nobody wants an unfinished game after all. A final note, people who pre-ordered the game WILL still get their 3-day head start playtime as was promised. Those lucky folks will be able to jump in-game on October 30th, just in time for Halloween.

Straight from the halls that Lothar built comes 4 new screenshots of what is sure to be the next best selling PC game. Courtesy of GamesRadar comes four new screenshots, all of which came directly from Blizzard. Slated for a hazy 2008 release, Blizzard’s next expansion for their massively popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft, takes place in the frozen north where Arthas lives. For those that don’t know the lore behind the game this probably won’t mean very much to you. . .

The expansion, in addition to granting access to Northrend, will also increase the level cap to 80 and unveil a new class called the Death Knight. Exciting stuff. Screenies below.

Hellgate: London Bosses

Check it out. IGN has posted a video oif probably the most awesome bosses I have ever seen in a onling RPG game. They truly look badass and I can’t wait to get fight em off myself. Why oh why must we wait til October 31st? It is true that if you pre-order the game you get into the beta (I did) but, unfortunately, I had to stop myself from playing it. You see I like games to be fresh and new and since I know they are going to be wiping the characters I decided to stop playing and wait for retail. Oh well. Enjoy the video above.

Fury DevChat/Interview

fury3.jpg

So, last night, I got to participate in a interview session with the developers of Fury. It was throuhg MMORPG.com that I was able to get such an oppurtunity. They hosted the whole spiel. During the interview many of my questions got answered, as well as some. . . less than knowledgable questions. Those don’t really matter, what DOES matter is that they do have planned expansions coming (both free and paid). In addition to this they told me that their maps can evolve very easily depending on players actions and reactions. Sounds like it could be fun.

Furious Deathblows Video

fury3.jpg

Tucked away in a huge continent with very few people, for it’s size, lies Auran, an Australian developer with big big dreams. You see they are about to launch their first MMO, Fury. What is different about this MMO is that there is no grinding, no leveling through repetitive quests, and no cheesy story to follow persay. Everything is done through PvP. The entire game is built around a PvP model, killing other players gets you experience, money, and whatever else the game offers. What is even better about this type of gameplay is that the PvP doesn’t look that bad, in fact it looks really nice.

Thanks to GamesRadar, we have a video of all the nice, brutal deathblows you’ll be able to deal to eachother. Remember, when I say brutal, I mean brutal. . . enjoy the cracking sounds.

Tabula Rasa gets Dated

tabularasa01.jpg

Tabula Rasa, NCSoft’s newest Sci-Fi MMORPG, has been officially dated for October 19th. The game is being created by the legendary Richard “Lord British” Garriott, who was the original creator of Ultima Online. For those who still want to try out the game you can sign up for the beta HERE.

The game itself has been recieving favourable previews and videos throughout it’s 6-year long life. Even when it underwent a major facelift about 3 and a half years ago it was still being previewed favourably. Here is hoping that the game’s review lives up to it’s previews when it launches.

Spotlight: Huxley MMOFPS

huxley04.jpg

Could this be the first true successor to the first MMOFPS, Planetside? I have often thoguht about the game, however refused to write about it. It just seemed like it is too good to be true and that eventually it would sink away into oblivion. I have yet to be proven wrong as the game may very well still be cancelled, anything can happen ya know? However, the game has been in development a long time and is now worth showing off.

The game is running off of the Unreal 3 engine, provided by Epic, and is one of the very first MMOFPS games to take advantage of it. Everybody already knows what an amazing engine Unreal is for FPS games, so it should be translated equally as well into Huxley where you’ll be able to partake in a persistent, online, massive 100 v 100 battles. Not quite as big as Planetside but still big enough.

Supposedly the game is supposed to land later this year, although I wouldn’t get your hopes up for that one. Check out some screenies below.

Lord of the Rings Online Trial Program

witchking_header.jpg

All I can say is. . . finally. You see, Turbine has themselves a very good, polished game on their hands. Unfortunately, gamers don’t want to spend $50 on something that still has a VERY good chance of not being what they wanted. You see MMORPGs are very different, and different people like different MMORPGs. Its just how things go. So now the gamers have nothing to worry about thanks to this brand new 7-day completely free trial. Just goto the website and sign-up.

In addition to the trial, Turbine has also let loose some other juicy tidbits of information on the game, one being that there are currently 4 million characters in the game. While that is not an exact number of subsciptions, it definitely aludes to their being “a lot” of players. Screenies below.
