Hellgate: London Subscriber Perks

helgatelondon02.jpg

For those of you who have been patiently waiting for Hellgate: London to come out you probably also know about their upcoming “subscriber” service. The game will be free, totally and completely. There is nothing that comes shipped with the retail mode of the game (story/skill wise) that you won’t have access to if you don’t feel like paying, however, there are some perks to laying down the $10/month charge. Some of them seem like it would be worth it but then others, like the achievements, seem a little. . . bleh.

Savage 2 Beta Begins

savage2.jpg

You know what’s fun? FPS and RTS games. You know what’s even better than those? A combination of the two. Although very very rare, every once in a while a developer will come along with this idea. Even then only about a quarter of the titles actually make it into production, and then not many actually make it out the door after that. Its a rare breed of video game. Luckily for us we have Savage 2, a game that is very much promising that type of gameplay. One person will control the battlefield as if he were playing an RTS, while other players will be on the ground via a third person or FPS view. At the very least it sounds interesting, right?

In anycase, you can try it out today if you want. All you have to do is goto their website and pre-order the game. It really isn’t too much to ask, and a lot of developers are doing this nowadays. Best of all, since this is a self-published title, the game will only cost you $29.99, 20 dollars cheaper than what you’d expect to pay for a title such as this!

Hellgate: London Release Date Announced!

helgatelondon02.jpg

This news is a bit old. Sorry, sorry. My fault. Anyways, it is as the title of the post says; EA has officially dated Hellgate: London for release. They decided to give it a release date very fitting for the theme of the game so prepare to kill some demons this Halloween, October 31st 2007.

In other, less themed release dating news, Hellgate: London will be also be released in Europe on November 2nd. Not entirely sure why they have decided to delay the game by 2 days across the Atlantic, but at least its not 2 months.  Something that happens all to often across the pond.

Bethesda Online?

mattfiror.jpgZenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda, has announced that it has openned up a brand new development studio named: ZeniMax Online Studios. Wait, what’s that? Online Studios? Could this be it? Is it finally happening? This may very well be the first steps into the making of an Elder Scrolls MMORPG game, although nothing is official at this time. The new studio is being headed by Matt Firor (pictured), who was the producer for Dark Age of Camelot.

I remember when Oblivion first came out, all I could imagine was how awesome this game would be if there was a least a couple other people to roam around with or kill. . . your choice. Now, maybe this hope will finally come to fruition. Don’t get your hopes to high, though, the studio just openned and Matt Firor is still looking for recruits which means nothing has been worked on yet.

Unreal Tournament 3 Trailer!

ut3001.jpg

I am awestruck. Words cannot describe how amazing this game looks. I have never really been a fan of the Unreal Tournament games. I loved my version on Dreamcast but, other than that none of the games have ever really intrigued me. This one, however, makes my jaw drop. The video (shown after the jump) is AMAZING. Not only does this game cram vehicles, weapons, and what looks like a hover board (check the video) but some of these things also have special abilities. One vehicle, for example, is cloaked when not moving. How awesome is that?

The game is set to release on PS3 in November. Once again our console brothers get a game before us, no big surprise there. Good thing though is that we WILL be getting this game early next year. Which is fine by me because we are getting Crysis, hopefully, later this year exclusively, anyways. That will definitely keep me busy. This will also be a game that breaks the dull early-year game drought, so I don’t think its so bad.

Hellgate: London Free or not to be Free?

helgatelondon02.jpg

There is a lot of controversy surrounding this game. Why? Because of its OPTIONAL payment plan that gives its players additional bonus features as well as upcoming content. Thats not to say the freebies won’t get anything, however. The game, for what it’s worth, is 100% completely playable for free. You never have to pay and you can explore the entire game from beginning to end. However, if you so decide, you can opt in to pay an additional $9.99 per month for specific extra goodies. These include:

  • Player housing, I think.
  • “Awesome looking” armour, although from what I have read the armour isn’t actually better.
  • Access to additional content.
  • Priority access to servers.
  • The ability to manage and maintain a guild.

Not to shabby. From what it looks like to me the freebie players should be happy they get to play, at all, for absolutely nothing. If anything the players who opt into the additional $9.99/month should be a bit wary. I would be expecting some killer additional content for that kind of baggage. Check out the game when it launched later this year.

E3: Timeshift Multiplayer

timeshift01.jpg

Sierra let loose some juicy details about how this unique FPS will be handling multiplayer. Typically in a game like this the multiplayer modes are fairly simple; deathmatch, capture the flag, team deathmatch, etc. This game, however, will be using some of the core elements of its single player game in the multiplayer game. Prepare for some time-stopping fun with your friends because in the multiplayer game everybody has grenades that explode with “time”. If somebody happens to get caught within this “explosion, yourself included, you will inevitably get frozen or at least slow down to a crawl. Unfortunately, Sierra didn’t provide any videos or screenshots of multiplayer in action so we will have to allow our minds to wander for now.

E3: Hellgate London

helgatelondon02.jpg

So, I have some bad news; Flagship Studios did not take any time during this E3 to drop any new information about Hellgate: London. Well at least nothing earth shattering. They did allow a playable demo as well as dropped a couple new screenies, which I have here. The demo, apparently, is a blast. It is exactly how you all were hoping Diablo 3 to be: fast, fun, and in 3D. This is all not mentioning how challenging it is at the same time, literally there are thousands of monsters in just one dungeon.  The game will also be featuring Diablo 2’s skill tree system which I am very excited about. The idea of every class acting and looking the same bores me so this will be refreshing.

The game is preparing for its launch later this year and will be one of the star children for our platform. Be sure to pick it up! One (1) screenie below.

Two Worlds: Faction Grind?

twoworlds01.jpg

IGN just recently added a new slice of information from Two Worlds the other day. This time it brings with it an interesting situation, one that wasn’t found at all within the halls that Oblivion built. Two Worlds will introduce players (the non-WoW addicts) the meaning of the word faction-grind.

What is faction grinding? Its quite simple, but tedious none-the-less. In the game, Two Worlds, there will be different factions (highlighted below). Each of these factions will be paying attention to who you are dealing with, what you say to them, and whether or not you work for them or not. If you continue to do quests for the Warrior’s Guild then eventually your faction will increase with them offering special items, and quests that you wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. However, working with the Warrior’s Guild too much could very well decrease your reputation with another guild like the Thieves Guild.
